Maintenance of bamboo

 Maintenance of bamboo

To extend the life of your bamboo furniture, we recommend that you treat it with a Wood Protector before using the furniture. Then you should clean your furniture at least once a year to prevent the surface from becoming receptive to dirt, grease and dust. First, remove all dirt, grease and dust from the bamboo furniture and then wash the furniture with a clean cloth or sponge soaked in soapy water. Alternatively, you can make use of a Wood Cleaner and follow the instructions that come with the product. Once you have done that, we recommend you to dry the bamboo surface with a dry cloth or let the furniture air dry before use. The treatment of the bamboo must always be done in the direction of the fibers, and you can preferably apply Wood Protector for extra protection. In addition, it is of course recommended that dirt and spills on the bamboo furniture be wiped off immediately to reduce the risk of stains or fungal attack.

Over time, the color of your bamboo furniture will gradually diminish, because of its natural features. It is to be expected that over time the surface will get a patina grey color. If you want to preserve the golden color best, it therefore requires that you regularly clean and treat the furniture by following this procedure.

 If bamboo is not treated

If fungus or mold has formed on your bamboo furniture, we recommend that you clean the area with soapy water or our Wood Cleaner, possibly ProtoxHysan, and use the rough side of a sponge to remove fungus or mold. When you have scrubbed the furniture clean, wipe with a cloth and let the bamboo dry completely before you finish it off with wood protection.

If there are small gray or black stains on your bamboo furniture, these could also possibly be removed. You can either add vinegar to the water while cleaning or just drissle a little salt on the stain, rub gently on the area with a damp cloth or sponge twisted in lukewarm water, wipe with a cloth and then let the bamboo dry.

Storage Options

It is important that you store your bamboo furniture in a dry place with good ventilation during the winter months. If you do not have space to store your furniture indoors, we recommend that you cover them. However, it will be necessary for the cover to be loose so that it is possible for air to enter.. Bamboo must be able to breathe so that the material can adapt to the temperature and humidity that is where the furniture has been placed, otherwise cracks could occur in the wood. Before putting the bamboo furniture away or covering it, you should also clean it to prevent dirt from developing into dark stains or fungus due to the humid winter climate.

If you make sure to maintain your bamboo furniture by caring for and treating it as recommended here, you will have the best conditions for enjoying the furniture season after season.
